* Steel cans, cleaned and with tops squeezed together, sharp edges safe inside.
* Plastics with the No. 1 symbol – e.g. transparent soft drink, juice and fruit containers

(From March 2009, other plastic codes also.)
* Plastic supermarket bags – place in a bundle inside the crate
* Paper – clean mixed printed papers, envelopes, within tied supermarket bags
* Newspapers – within tied supermarket bags, to keep dry

* Cardboard (corrugated) –flat bundle, tied with string.
Remember to wash and squash tin cans and plastic bottles, and to place bundled items beside your crate. Christchurch will be switching to wheeled bins in place of crates in 2009 but similar lists of items will be acceptable, and additional plastic codes. http://www.ccc.govt.nz/Waste/RubbishCollection/NewKerbsideCollectionService.asp
You can also take any of these recyclable items to the EcoDepots. Location maps of these available at www.terranova.org.nz/terranova/transfer-stations/ For Banks Peninsula area locations, see: http://www.ccc.govt.nz/Waste/RefuseStations/#Locations
From March 2009 Christchurch will have a three bin kerbside system in operation.
